An ugly confrontation and a humanitarian disaster had been brewing for months but came to a head in late September when diplomats from the European Union were physically assaulted by Israeli soldiers as they tried to deliver emergency humanitarian aid. The relief supplies were bound for Palestinians who had just been made homeless after the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) destroyed their village in the northern Jordan Valley of the Israeli occupied West Bank.

A female French diplomat was pulled out of an aid delivery vehicle and thrown to the ground by Israeli soldiers while sound grenades were thrown at another group of diplomats. Their aid vehicles were then forcibly confiscated at gunpoint, along with all the aid they were carrying. In this month’s edition of the magazine, Mel Fryberg reports as EU diplomats and Israeli troops clash over destruction of a Palestinian village.
