CHRISTIE’S DUBAI SETS NEW RECORD

Christie’s Dubai auctions are now well established as a major record-breaking event and this year was no different. On the first night 47 watches raised $1,591,750, at the auction house while in the art world, the late Turkish-Jordanian artist Fahr El Nissa Zeid’s 1962 abstract work Break of the Atom and Vegetal Life set a new record – the highest price for a painting by a female artist from the region – when the hammer fell at $2,741,000. This follows on from the record-breaking price attained for sculpture in the region, namely the $2.8m paid for a piece from Iranian-born Parviz Tanavoli, who is based in Vancouver, Canada.
