Firefighters tackle the blaze at Kuwait’s new Opera House

Just three months after opening, Kuwait’s new opera house has been devastated by fire. The futuristic $770 million venue, which formed part of the  the waterfront Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Cultural Centre, was set to host the famous Andrew Lloyd Webber production “Cats” in mid-February.
Firefighters on a crane sprayed water onto the roof of the building, a structure covered with geometric Islamic patterns, to contain the blaze. A spokesperson for  the Centre said the fire had been contained with no casualties. The management is said to be “hopeful” there will be only minimal disruption to the scheduled programme of events.

The cause of the fire remains unknown
